[ Summary ] |
In order to make a differential diagnosis and obtain a precise diagnosis of infectious colitis, evaluation of clinical findings is most important. Obtaining a detailed disease history enables us to make a diagnosis of infectious colitis. A definite diagnosis can be obtained by performing tests such as bacterial examinations, using stool or blood samples for biochemistry tests. Combined use of imaging studies employing ultrasound, CT scans, radiography or colonoscopy is practical for the differential diagnosis of infectious colitis or IBD by analyzing location, shape and alignment of the lesions. In relation to treatment for infectious colitis, eliminating dehydration and administration of adequate antibiotics are the most important factors. Before causative bacteria are identified, administration of newquinolone or fosfomycin are recommended for empiric therapy. |
