| [ Summary ] |
Radiation-induced enteropathy is a complication following irradiation for pelvic malignancies. The rectum and the distal sigmoid colon are usually affected, while the small intestine is rarely disturbed because of its mobility. Enteropathy can be easily diagnosed in cases where previous pelvic irradiation is confirmed, as well as intestinal pathology observed within the irradiated area. On the other hand, the effectiveness of conservative treatments is unsatisfactory. In this article, the clinical aspects, radiological and endoscopic characteristics, as well as therapeutic approaches for the disease are reviewed. |
