| [ Summary ] |
The investigation and the treatment of obscure gastrointestinal bleeding (OGIB) are about to be revolutionized by the development of double-balloon endoscopy and capsule endoscopy. The bleeding source of OGIB in the small intestine is divided into three groups as follows ; ulcers/erosions, vascular lesions and tumors/polyps. Generally, it is difficult to control OGIB associated with small intestinal vascular lesions, compared to the control possible with other small intestinal lesions. Recently, we classified small intestinal vascular lesions based on endoscopic findings. This new classification contributes to the ability to analyze the long-term outcomes for patients and to select the proper endoscopic treatment. |
