| [ Summary ] |
In this review, we describe the surgical management of lower gastrointestinal bleeding, except for cases of colorectal cancer or inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Although the causes of lower gastrointestinal bleeding are wide-ranging, surgical treatment is applied in a limited number of cases. The indications for surgical treatment are thought to be peracute or recurrent bleeding, as well as hemorrhaging which is refractory to endoscopic treatment and interventional radiology. Operative procedures depend on the causes of bleeding. Appropriate operations should be performed when necessary. Laparoscopic surgery may be considered if the source of bleeding is detected preoperatively. |
