[ Summary ] |
Few studies on virtual colonoscopy to visualize lesions in the small intestine have been published. The small intestine is a difficult area to examine because of its anatomical characteristics, being long and far from the mouth or anus. To depict the small intestine with virtual endoscopy, the intestinal tract must be adequately expanded. Air is administrated directly into the small intestine prior to CT scanning. With this method, depressed lesions can be observed in the terminal ileum. With progress in MDCT performance, virtual endoscopy reconstructed by MDCT may become a useful tool in detecting lesions in the small intestine. |
