| [ Summary ] |
The importance of sedation in gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures is increasing. The purpose of sedation is to remove the anxiety and discomfort of patients and improve their acceptability and satisfaction with endoscopic procedures. From the perspective of an endoscopist, it is believed that this will lead to the completion and success rate of diagnostic/therapeutic procedures. The "Guidelines for Sedation in Gastroenterological Endoscopy", published in 2013 by the Japanese Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society, showed the indications and adequate methods of sedation. In clinical practice, the final decision as to the use of sedation should be made by physicians considering patient willingness and physical condition. In accordance with this guideline, the drug must be implemented with a thorough understanding of drug characteristics, usage, and monitoring methods. Needless to say, informed consent for sedation is essential in any situation. |
