[ Summary ] |
A significant increase in the prevalence of gastric cancer after eradication (GCAE) is being observed in Japan. It is important to identify the endoscopic characteristics of GCAE. H. pylori eradication is usually followed by differentiated type of cancer that is endoscopically characterized by a reddish depression (RD) of the mucosa. However, occasionally benign RD of the mucosa may be indistinguishable from gastric cancer secondary to histological alterations in the surface structure (non‒neoplastic epithelium or epithelium with low‒grade atypia), as well as a varied presentation of RD of the mucosa. Image‒enhanced magnification endoscopy can improve diagnostic accuracy in such cases. |
