[ Summary ] |
In this section we discuss the role of limited surgery for superficial non-ampullary duodenal epithelial tumors (SNADET). Surgical resection is the treatment of choice for SNADET not amenable to endoscopic resection owing to technical and/or oncological reasons. Mucosal carcinoma and adenomas rarely metastasize to lymph nodes; therefore, even when surgery is indicated, minimal local resection involving the smallest possible area without lymphadenectomy such as transduodenal excision, local full-thickness resection, or pancreas-sparing duodenectomy should be performed as an alternative to endoscopic resection. A laparoscopy-assisted procedure can be used for all limited surgeries. |
