【 要旨 】 わが国における食道癌治療は食道癌治療アルゴリズムに則り，進行度を基準として治療方針が決定される．進行度診断が治療戦略へ直結するため正確な評価が求めらる．食道癌の深達度，リンパ節転移，遠隔転移診断では，病変の深達度により各々の機器の診断精度が異なることを認識し，内視鏡検査，頸部および腹部超音波検査，食道造影検査，EUS，CT，MRI検査，気管支内視鏡検査，FDG‒PET検査，骨シンチグラフィーなどの検査を複数用いて総合的に診断することが重要である．各種検査についてその精度を明らかにすることが今後の課題とされる．

[ Summary ] The treatment strategy is decided based on the staging guidelines in Japan. Therefore, precise diagnosis of depth of tumor and metastasis of locoregional lymph node or distant organs and assessment of response to neoadjuvant treatment are required. Upon diagnosis, familiarizing with the features of each modalities and then deciding on a comprehensive treatment strategy are needed. The accuracy of each modalitiey needs to be imporved.
