| [ Summary ] |
Gastroendoscopy was newly described as a grade B recommendation for population‒based and opportunistic screening in "The Japanese Guidelines for Gastric Cancer Screening (2014)". Thus, the need for thin‒cable endoscopy including transnasal endoscopy is expected to increase. In this paper, we summarize practical procedure for thin‒cable endoscopy in gastric cancer screening, such as pretreatment, observation protocol, imaging quality, operation performance, diagnostic accuracy, and problem points. In terms of imaging quality and operability, a thin‒cable endoscope has significantly improved during the last decade. Hence, transnasal endoscopy is almost comparable to oral endoscopy. Moreover, the development of thin‒cable endoscopy has accomplished diagnostic accuracy to detect even small lesion site of gastric tumor. Therefore, we conclude that the use of thin‒cable endoscopy will prevail in the field of endoscopic screening for gastric cancer in Japan. |
