The Japan Society of Hepatology (JSH) launched the first version of the JSH Guidelines for the Management of Hepatitis C Virus Infection in 2012. After several revisions, the newest version (Version 5) was published in May 2016. Since present day treatment regimens are almost perfect in terms of efficacy as well as safety, these guidelines recommend that all patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections, except those with poor prognosis owing to severe liver disease or other comorbidities, should be treated. In addition, in this version, treatment recommendations have been newly added for patients with HCV infection as well as for a "special population," which, includes patients with HIV/HBV co‒infection, those with CKD or undergoing dialysis, those reinfected with HCV after liver transplantation, and those undergoing curative treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma. In this short review, I have summarized the contents of the newest version of the JSH Guidelines for the Management of Hepatitis C Virus Infection. |
