[ Summary ] |
Gastrointestinal bleeding can occur even in infancy. Endoscopic hemostasis for children can be performed using the same devices or techniques as for adults. However, the smaller body size and thinner intestinal wall, especially in young children or infants could expose them to a significant risk of complications from endoscopic procedures. The importance of informed consent, including the risk of complications, cannot be emphasized enough, and physicians performing pediatric endoscopy should be well prepared for unexpected conditions. In this chapter, the common causes of GI bleeding in children and the management, including the choices of sedation/anesthesia, devices, and hemostatic techniques, will be discussed. |
