[ Summary ] |
Since functional dyspepsia (FD) has a complicated physiology, several drugs have been used in its treatment. Acid suppressive agents and prokinetic agents are used for the first‒line therapy of FD. In a meta‒analysis of randomized controlled studies, proton pump inhibitors, histamine receptor antagonists, and 5‒HT4 agonists demonstrated significant improvement of FD symptoms compared with placebo. The clinical practice guidelines for functional dyspepsia created by the Japanese Society of Gastroenterology recommend acid suppressants and prokinetics for the initial treatment of FD ; acotiamide is the only drug indicated for the treatment of FD that is reimbursed by the Japanese public health insurance system. |
