| [ Summary ] |
A self‒propelling capsule endoscope (SPCE), which is currently in development, can be used for operation in the gastrointestinal lumen and is controlled via a magnetic field. The two goals of developing SPCE are to perform total gastrointestinal endoscopy, antegrade by oral ingestion, and retrograde total colonoscopy by anal insertion. There are many problems in the clinical application of SPCE, and hence, an improvement in the performance of SPCE is required. We have overcome the initial problems and tested it under experimental conditions in the human stomach and intestine. However, there are now newer problems to be overcome before clinical application can be considered. We would like to continue to challenge ourselves further and eventually ensure clinical application of SPCE. |
