| [ Summary ] |
We compared capsule endoscopic findings of the small intestine between patients with Behçet's disease (BD) and those with NSAIDs induced enteropathy. Small intestinal mucosal injury was observed in 92 % of BD patients. Although most patients with BD manifested no gastrointestinal symptoms, the prevalence of ulcer was higher in BD than in NSAIDs induced enteropathy. Small intestinal lesions of BD were multiple and were predominantly seen in the ileum when compared to those of NSAIDs induced enteropathy. Oval discrete ulcer, which is thought to be a characteristic endoscopic finding of BD, was not frequent in the small intestine. In one patient with BD, ileal perforation requiring emergency surgery occurred during the follow‒up period. Although obvious differences were not observed in CE findings between BD and NSAIDs induced enteropathy, CE seems useful to some extent in the diagnosis and management of BD. |
