| [ Summary ] |
Colorectal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) has enabled us to perform en bloc resection of superficial gastrointestinal neoplasms and has become a common treatment in Japan. ESD is indicated for colorectal tumors over 2 cm in diameter such as laterally spreading tumors. However, tumors over 5 cm have not been indicated for ESD by the National Health Insurance system of Japan. As a result, we evaluated the clinical features presented by patients with tumors who underwent colorectal ESD at the Osaka Medical Center for Cancer and Cardiovascular Diseases from September 2005 to March 2012. It was noted longer treatment times for ESD are required and complications occurred at high rates. Therefore, colorectal ESD treatment for tumors over 5 cm in diameter should be carefully considered. |
