[ Summary ] |
The guidelines concerning management of antithrombotic agents in the periendoscopic period developed by the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society were revised in 2012. These guidelines consider the risks of thromboembolic events during cessation periods more closely than before. These new guidelines allow for remarkable changes, such as permitting invasive endoscopic procedures, such as endoscopic biopsies without cessation of medication and high-risk procedures for patients being administered aspirin or cilostazol. Changes are expected in daily clinical practice for gastrointestinal endoscopy in Japan. However, confusions has arisen for physicians and patients due to major differences between previous guidelines and the new guidelines. We illustrate these outlines and issues related to the new guidelines. |
