[ Summary ] |
The number of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG), a type of bariatric surgery, procedure, performed has increased. This is the only type of bariatric surgery, which has been approved as an advanced medical approach in Japan. LSG is as valid as laparoscopic Roux-en Y gastric bypass surgery in decreasing body weight and improving diabetic, conditions, including secretion of various peptides, including insulin, GLP-1 and ghrelin. When we carefully select likely candidates, LSG may be useful not only as a form of bariatric surgery but also as a type of metabolic surgery. |
