[ Summary ] |
Acute hemorrhagic rectal ulcer (AHRU) has an important etiology related to lower gastrointestinal bleeding. The clinical features are sudden massive indolent bleeding, as observed with bed ridden elderly patients who have serious illnesses. Understanding typical clinical and endoscopic findings through careful endoscopic examination is important for accurately diagnosing AHRU. Though endoscopic haemostatic therapy is often effective for bleeding patients, additional endoscopic haemostatic therapy or IVR, surgical treatment may be recommended. Stercoral ulcer, and CMV rectal ulcer are important as differential diagnosis for AHRU. |
