| [ Summary ] |
We report on current trends concerning methods of drainage or stenting for cases with pancreatic and biliary diseases. Recently, the technique of employing endoscopic transpapillary drainage using a posterior oblique-viewing endoscope has taken the place of methods for percutaneous transhepatic drainage. Additionally, there have been some reports on the usefulness of endoscopic ultrasound guided choledochoduodenostomy. A new method using a double balloon endoscope enables easier access to the afferent loop in cases treated with Billroth-II gastrectomies, or Roux-en-Y anastomosis. However, no standard procedure has been established for these new methods. Further improvements in these methods are needed to provide better treatment outcomes. |
