Gastrointestinal lymphoma exhibits enormous diversity of biological and clinicopathological features. These features are due to the complicated disease processes involved. To form a satisfactory diagnosis, it is necessary to consider all indicators such as morphology, immunophenotype, genetic features and clinical features. Since B-cell neoplasms are similar to those observed in the differentiation stages of normal B-cells, they can be understood more easily by observing not only genetic features and cell surface antigens but also the functions of normal cell counterparts. The present article describes, on the basis of the fourth edition of the WHO classification, an overview of the latest knowledge concerning the pathological features and molecular pathogenesis of mature B-cell lymphoma which is very often encountered in the gastrointestinal tract. |
