[ Summary ] |
Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is indispensable for diagnosis and treatment of pancreatobiliary diseases. However, the technical difficulties of employing this technique are well recognized. These problems are compounded by the fact that there is no consensus on ERCP training systems. We described the training system for ERCP in our hospital. In order to perform biliary drainage in emergencies, all trainees in our hospital are required to learn basic ERCP skills. In the early stages of training, the frequency of procedures is a more important factor than the total number of procedures performed. After trainees master the basic skills, they should continue to be engaged in ERCP to maintain and improve those skills. We have also adopted the Yanegawara (roofing tiles) education system, known to be effective in various fields, in which a senior trainee plays a role as the trainer of junior trainees. |
