[ Summary ] |
We evaluated the diagnostic potential of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (US) to reveal hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC). We also compared US to mutidetector row (MD) CT and, images produced with infusions of gadoxetic acid [gadolinium-ethoxybenzyl (Gd-EOB) or images obtained by employing diethylenetriaminopentoacetic acid (DTPA)] for MRI. The sensitivity of contrast-enhanced US, MDCT and Gd-EOB-DTPA MRI were not significantly deferent, although Gd-EOB-DTPA, MRI exhibited the best results. In regard to borderline lesions, hepatobiliary phase Gd-EOB-DTPA MRI image videntified most lesions as low intensity areas, while post-vascular phase images obtained with contrast-enhanced US failed to detect them. Due to these observations, hepatobiliary phase Gd-EOB-DTPA MRI images are useful in early detection of borderline lesions. Further study is needed to ascertain more accurate diagnostic techniques to diagnose HCCs and borderline lesions. |
