[ Summary ] |
Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) has become an indispensable diagnostic procedure, which uses endoscopy along with intraluminal ultrasonography. EUS provides high resolution images of many kinds of abdominal tumors. It also visualizes lesions outside the gastrointestinal tract, particularly those in the pancreas. We can formulate histological diagnoses by employing EUS-FNA. EUS-FNA provides sensitivity rates of over 90 %, and complication rates which are lower than 1 %. Recently, many researchers have expanded the indications for use of EUS-FNA to various kinds of lesions as well as to a variety of therapeutic purposes. |
