[ Summary ] |
EMR is indicated for the treatment of superficial early colorectal cancers. Delayed bleeding or perforations after EMR are occasionally encountered, particularly in cases with substantial mucosal ulceration. To overcome this potential complication, a new technique for complete closure of large mucosal defects is described. EMR was performed and the large defect was closed using an endo-loop snare, metallic clips and a two-channel colonoscope. Complete closure was achieved almost immediately without any complications. The technique can be performed with only one colonoscope and causes no discomfort to the patient. Preliminary experience suggests that this technique can be safely applied for complete closure of large mucosal defects and furthermore, to facilitate day surgery treatment. |
