| [ Summary ] |
We encountered 25 cases of upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage and 24 cases of lower digestive tract hemorrhage in children from 1991 to 2007. There were 12 cases with varices and bleeding in the upper gastrointestinal tract, with only 3 cases involving ulcerative hemorrhage. Enteritis accounted for half of the lower digestive tract hemorrhages, and there were 4 cases of colon polyps. Pediatric digestive tract hemorrhaging is different from adult cases because of congenital diseases,gene abnormalities and other conditions. Endoscopic examination and treatment for children requires sedation and general anesthesia. There is a great need for pediatricians who can perform pediatric digestive tract endoscopy, and can perform endoscopic hemostasis with the same degree of accuracy as they would for adult patients, in terms of vital management. |
