【 要旨 】 HBVキャリアの自然経過は，(1) Immune tolerance期)，(2) Immune clearance期 (HBeAg+ chronic hepatitis B期)，(3) Low replicative期 (Inactive carrier state期)，(4) Reactivation期 (HBeAg− chronic hepatitis B期)，(5) Recovery期，という五つの時相に分類される．最近，HBV発癌の危険因子として，高HBV-DNA量であることが明らかとなり注目されている．

[ Summary ] The natural course of HBV carriers was divided into five phases. 1) immune tolerance phase, 2) immune clearance phase (HBeAg+ chronic hepatitis B), 3) low replicative phase (inactive carrier state phase), 4) reactivation phase (HBeAg− chronic hepatitis B), and 5) recovery phase. Recently, high levels of serum HBV-DNA have come to be regarded as one high risk factor in the development of hepatocellular carcinoma related to persistent HBV infections.
