【 要旨 】 gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD)の診断や治療は，全世界で共通していなかった．そこで，世界に向けたGERDの定義と分類が2006年にMontreal Definitionとして発表された．このコンセンサスの特徴は，GERDを食道疾患ではなく全身的な疾患であるという立場をとっていることである．本稿では，Montreal Definitionの特徴などについて解説する．

[ Summary ] Methods to diagnoses and treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) have not always been universal. Therefore, a definition and a classification of GERD were announced as "Montreal Definition" to the world in 2006. A characteristic of this consensus of opinion states that GERD is not only an esophageal disease but also a systemic disease. The characteristics of the "Montreal Definition" are summarized.
