| [ Summary ] |
Fecal analysis can evaluate digestive and absorptive functions. Fecal fat excretion is measured with the van de Kamer method, the gas chromatography, or near-infrared spectrometry. To evaluate protein digestive and absorptive functions fecal nitrogen excretion is measured with the Kjeldahl method and the Ninhydrin method. Fecal shortchain fatty acid excretion resulting in an increase in fermentation of undigested carbohydrates is measured by employing the gas chromatography method and highperformance liquid chromatography. Information from fecal analysis may be useful forunder standing the pathophysiology of diseases and effects of disease treatment. |
