[ Summary ] |
Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) is up-regulated in various gastrointestinal (GI) tumors. COX-2 has the potential to enhance invasion, metastasis, angiogenesis, and DNA adduct and to suppress apoptosis and tumor immunity, which leads to tumor development. COX-2 inhibitors have been reported to be effective as chemopreventive reagents against GI tumor formation. However, it has been also revealed that COX-2 inhibitors can induce and worsen cardiovascular diseases and heart failure. |
