| [ Summary ] |
Video capsule endoscopy (VCE) is a simple method for observing the entire small intestine not invasively. The indications for VCE are small intestinal diseases that present no risk of capsule retention. The first indication for VCE use is obscure gastrointestinal bleeding (OBGI-bleeding). Our institution has performed VCE for OBGI-bleeding, inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal malignant disease and gastrointestinal polyposis. VCE gives us the interesting images we not have ever gotten and contributes to decisions for therapeutic policies. However, there remain some problems with VCE diagnosis, particulary the fact that the image is taken by chance.
Improving these problems, VCE will become the major diagnostic imaging tool for small intestine examination. |
