| [ Summary ] |
The causes and characteristics of Non-B, Non-C HCC (NBNC-HCC) are still relatively unknown. To investigate possible risk factors associated with NBNC-HCC, 43 patients who were HCC negative for HBsAg and anti-HCV were enrolled in this study. As a result, interventions for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) / non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) related factors such as obesity and diabetes, and excessive alcohol intake may be associated with the development of NBNC-HCC. A slight association between occult HBV infection and NBNC-HCC development was observed. This was thought to be because there were no specific mutations of HBV which are associated with HCC development as well as comparatively low HBV DNA levels in the serum. Regarding the characteristics of NBNC-HCC, as previously reported, they tended to be found in the elderly with nearly normal liver functions, who had already developed large HCC. |
