[ Summary ] |
Patients with chronic hepatitis exist who are negative for hepatitis B and C viral markers. Such patients are diagnosed as having non-B, non-C chronic hepatitis. Recently, GB virus C (GBV-C), hepatitis G virus (HGV), TT virus (TTV), and SEN virus (SENV) have been suspected of being candidates for non-B, non-C hepatitis viruses. Virological analyses have shown that GBV-C and HGV are the same viruses. GBV-C / HGV can be transmited through blood transfusions and results in persistent infections. However, no evidence has been found that the virus causes hepatitis. TTV and SENV are categorized in a similar viral group. Genotype 1 TTV and genotypes G, as well as H SENV have been analyzed to determine if they are hepatitis viruses or not. As a result, none of them are considered to be new hepatitis virus at this time. |
