[ Summary ] |
The prevalence of gastric carcinoma has increased as has progress in endoscopic diagnosis of this condition. The diagnosis and treatment of gastric carcinoid tumors depends on the category determined by Rindi's classification. Type I carcinoids, which are composed of autoimmune gastritis and hypergastrinemic conditions, have good prognoses after endoscopic resection or anterectomy. On the other hand, patients with type III carcinoid conditions have poorer prognoses than those with type I. It is important to evaluate the status of gastric inflammation in the background mucosa to judge the potency of malignancy and to produce an accurate diagnosis for each tumor. It is also essential to determine the proper treatment for each patient. |
