【 要旨 】 gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) の現在の概念は，消化管間葉系腫瘍のなかで力ハールの介在細胞への分化を示す腫瘍ということであり，実際にはレセプターチロシンキナーゼであるKITの発現を証明することでほとんどの場合は診断される．近年になって，GISTという診断名は普及浸透し，診断および分子標的薬による治療が確立されている．しかし，現在の定義には多少の混乱が残っており，今後さらに検討が必要と思われる．

[ Summary ] In the past, most gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumors were assumed to be of smooth muscle origin. However, recent advances in understanding the biology of tumors, using immunohistochemistry and gene analysis, has revealed that most gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumors display differentiation towards gastrointestinal pace maker cells, known as interstitial cell of Cajal. Now, those tumors are defined as gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) which are immunohistochemically positive for receptor tyrosine kinase KIT.
