Abdominal pain is a common symptom and many diseases may be the cause. Some types of gastrointestinal diseases may be related to infections and neoplasmistic, functional disease (such as irritable bowel disease, constipation). It is very important to recognise these because intestinal functions are controlled by autonomic nerves. The ROME II criteria is useful for diagnosis of functional intestinal disease in children well as in adults. |
