| [ Summary ] |
Although biliary system diseases require less use of emergency endoscopic examinations than those of the digestive duct, these diseases are very complex and likely to progress to acute stages. Therefore, immediate action for such disorders is needed. Emergency endoscopy can provide accurate diagnoses and assessment for acute obstructive cholangitis (AOC), gall-stone pancreatitis, hemobilia and papillary bleeding.
Moreover, such endoscopic procedures, including endoscopic sphincterotomy (EST) can make it possible for us to treat at the same time AOC and gall-stone pancreatitis. Althogh endoscopic treatment is a less invasive and more effective for emergency disorders of the biliary tract, these procedures require high levels of safety and accuracy. Therefore, it is important to practice the skills needed for biliary endoscopy and continually increase the understanding of these diseases. |
