[ Summary ] |
Peritoneal dissemination is the most common metastatic and recurrent type of advanced gastric cancer. Because an efficient therapy has not been established for the peritoneal dissemination, early prediction of peritoneal recurrence and introduction of adjuvant chemotherapy is thought to be promising in making improvements in patient survival. Molecular diagnosis with RT-PCR for cancer micrometastasis is widely used for peritoneal lavage fluids in gastric cancer treatment. In this article, we show the clinical significance of molecular diagnosis with peritoneal lavage fluids and the clinical application of this method for gastric cancer therapy. Furthermore, we show a new molecular technique, which may widen the use of molecular diagnosis in clinical fields. |
