| [ Summary ] |
There is not, at the present, a standard for day surgery to perform polypectomies of the colon, at individual institutions. We decided on the following standards for endoscopic day surgery (EDS) polypectomies: (1) patients under 70 years of age, (2) the size of the lesion being less than 10 mm in diameter, (3) number of lesions less than 5, (4) slight complications, and (5) hospital time under one hour. As a result, bleeding patients were divided as to hospitalization treatment [EDS vs endoscopic hospital surgery (EHS): 1% vs 5.8% (p<0.01)]. However, we needed to provide informed consent and patient agreement on polypectomies when appropriate conditions were discovered in colonoscopic examinations at the time of reserving time for out patient surgery for EDS. In addition, complications such as hemorrhaging and perforations might occur in both EDS and EHS patients. We should be established the system of enough after EDS and should enforce it. |
