| [ Summary ] |
Pathophysiological measurements, such as gastric acid secretion and gastric motility, alone are not sufficient for the diagnosis and comprehensive management of patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia (NUD), because they often have no reliable or obvious physical signs of pathology. Furthermore, in relation to the brain-gut system, psychological factors are thought to be involved in NUD patient symptoms. Unfortunately, however, it is also unknown how individual psychological factors are associated with the pathophysiology of NUD. At the present time, there is no reliable or objective way to evaluate symptoms of patients with NUD. Therefor, it is necessary to establish the reliable, objectives, and standard evaluations, such as multidimensional questionnaires, as well as assessments of gastrointestinal symptoms and psychological factors. Quick establishment and standardization must lead to the more detailed clarification of the physiology of NUD. |
