| [ Summary ] |
CT colonography (CTC) is used for accurate examinations of colorectal neoplasia in our hospital. This is made possible by the use of luminal display images of colorectal lesions and is also making it possible to demonstrate extraluminal tumor invasion which one examination. CTC implements several kinds of visualization methods, such as volumetric CT data, virtual colonoscopy, air images, double-contrast CT images etc. Profile images of colorectal neoplasia with double-contrast CT images and barium enema studies are good complementary methods for diagnosis. Profile images from double contrast CTs make it possible to evaluate invasion depth differences between sm and mp cancer. It is difficult to apply CTC as a screening tool for colorectal neoplasia at this time because of the lack of detectablity for flat lesions and many other problems. With progress being made in computer aided diagnostic systems, electric cleansing methods and the multidetector CT equipment, CTC will have the ability to helps us overcome many of there problems. Therefore, it may be possible to use CTC as a screening tool in the future. |
