[ Summary ] |
Three-dimensional displays of the gastrointestinal tract, based on multi-detector CT scans, have come to be commonly used, due to progress in computers. Herein, we related the current uses of CT colonography(CT-C) by our group. Unfortunately CT-C is inferior to colon fiber(CF) and barium enemas(BE) examinations in the diagnosis of colonic diseases-especially those in the form of polypoid lesions. CT-C should be used in cases where there are difficulties with CF or BE examinations. At the moment, the suitable indications for CT-C are as follows: support for TCF technical failures, difficulties with insertion into the anal side, caused by cancerous stenosis or inflammatory/carcinomatous adhesions on CF. We have concluded that CT-C examination is sometimes necessary, having some advantages over the extra luminal information obtained with CT's. |
