| [ Summary ] |
A total of 157 patients who underwent pancreatectomies for cystic tumors of the pancreas (118 intraductal papillary tumors), (18 mucinous cystic tumors) and (21 serous cystic tumors), were examined to evaluate surgical management. In the intraductal papillary tumor cases or the mucinous cystic tumor cases, invasive carcinoma or lymph node metastasis was only detected in the elevated type (papillary projection over 3mm in the pancreatic duct). Tumor extension or lymph node metastasis enabled us to make preoperative diagnoses in most patients. Non-invasive carcinomas had favorite prognoses, however, the prognoses for invasive carcinomas were poor. Serous cystic tumors were all considered to be benign adenomas and had a favorite prognoses. In conclusion, it is possible to rationally choose variable surgical procedures for treatment of cystic tumors of the pancreas. |
