[ Summary ] |
The most reliable method for diagnosing steatorrhea is a balance study, which monitors constant fat intake and a seventy two-hour collection of feces. However, we developed a new method for diagnosing steatorrhea and evaluating the effects of pancreatic enzyme replacement on steatorrhea. We used 13C-labelled mixed triglycerides and measured expired 13CO2, This method is very useful for diagnosing pancrearic steatorrhea (chronic pancreatitis, pancreatectomy, cystic fibrosis and so on) and monitoring pancreatic enzyme supplementation. |
