【 要旨 】 シャフトの硬さを4段階に変更できる新しいスコープによる挿入法を解説した．シャフトの硬さは，通常のスコープと比較してレベル0では0.75倍，レベル3では1.7倍となる．標準的な使用法としては，S状結腸はレベル0で通過し，先端が脾彎曲部周辺に到達したらスコープを直線化した後，レベル3の状態にして挿入するとS状結腸でのループやたわみが予防されスライディングチューブや用手圧迫，体位変換などの補助手段を使用しなくとも容易に口側に挿入できる．また，術者の好みの硬さを随時選択できる．
可変機能はスライディングチューブの使用や用手圧迫，体位変換などの操作を減じ，total colonoscopyには画期的な機能である．

[ Summary ] We examined a new type of colonoscope, with variable degrees of stiffness. A stiffness level may be chosen from 0 (0.75 times compared with an ordinarily scope) to level 3 (1.7 times). The normal method of using the new type of scope was as follows: At the start, level 0 was useful to pass through the sigmoid colon and then the scope should be straightened, after that level 3 was effective for insertion into the proximal colon, without a sliding tube, hand maneuvering or changing position, because of caution necessary when making a loop or bending of the sigmoid colon. The colonoscopist can select the correct level anytime.
We concluded that the new type scope is a break through in this type of instrument, which does not have a sliding tube or require hand maneuvering.
