[ Summary ] |
Recent advances in treatment of full-thickness rectal prolapse, intussusception and allied complications were reviewed. The diagnosis of intussusception is determined, in patients with defecation disturbances, by using defecography. Laparoscopic procedures have become to be an another option for the treatment of rectal prolapse, in addition to conventional procedures. In continence has been reported to be improved in many patients following rectopexy, but advanced age and longer follow ups seem to have a negative effect on the functional outcome of the operation. Rectopexy, with sigmoidectomy, seems to be a promising procedure in patients with constipation, but more study is needed for the determination of these indications. |
