[ Summary ] |
Ulcers and erosions of the stomach are extremely common in patients taking nonsterodial antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). There have been few valid studies on the treatment of NSAIDs-associated peptic ulcers. Thhere is data to support that NSAIDs treatment should be stopped, if possible, while attemp-ting to heal ulcers. However, It is not always easy for patie-ntswith inflammatory conditions to do without their NSAID therapy. Sveral trials reported that the gastric ulser recovery rate for those treated with ranitidine or misoprostol av-ereged about 70% which is much higher than the placebo recovery rate of approximatery 20%, for NSAIDs-associated ulsers. Also, the recovery rate for those reciving omeprazole was higer compared to patients taking ranitidine or misopropostol for the same period. |
