In almost all cases, malignant lymphomas are observed as homogeneously low-echoic areas with clear margins by endoscopic ultrasonography(EUS). By abdominal ultrasonography (US) or computed tomography (CT) these lesions reveal the findings of a mass and the thickness of the digestive tract wall. The depth of invasion and lymphoid metastasis are diagnosed by EUS. EUS is also useful for differential diagnosis, and judging the effectiveness of chemotherapy. On the other hand, extension beyond the digestive tract and invasion into neighboring organs, lymphoid metastasis and liver metastasis, the lesion stage and the effectiveness of chemotherapy are assessed by US or CT. US is also used as a screening examination for malignant lymphoma. |
