【 要旨 】 腹膜透析は在宅ででき，緩徐な除水および溶質除去のために高齢者に負担が少ない透析方法である．在宅で行うため，多少の自己管理が必要であるが，介護者のアシストにより，自己管理ができない高齢者でも可能である．高齢者の透析導入が増えているが，腹膜透析は未だ十分に活用されていない．この理由として病院および介護施設スタッフの教育不足が挙げられる．腹膜透析は設備投資の不要な医療であり，医療スタッフの教育と支援する基幹病院があればどの非専門の医療・介護施設でも管理可能である．

[ Summary ] Home dialysis and the gentle removal of solutes and water is an advantage of peritoneal dialysis (PD) in elderly patients. Although certain level of selfcare are required for PD, elderly peritoneal dialysis patients can be assisted by family or caregivers. Since the number of hemodialysis patients are increasing, PD is still underused in elderly patients. This can be avoided by educating healthcare provider staff. With the education of healthcare provider staff and support of professional hospitals, any general hospital and healthcare providers can participate in the PD program. This could improve the elderly PD patients through community-based medicine.
