[ Summary ] |
An important issue, which must be mastered by the elderly wishing to remain independent in their own country homes, is the preparation of a nutritional, dialysis compatible diet. This diet should be based on caloric intake criteria for maintenance dialysis patients, with consideration of both their past eating habits and suitable dialysis related foods. Furthermore, to build a whole picture of the patient, we need an understanding of their family's medical background and lifestyle. The client also needs food preparation instructions and ongoing follow-up visits, which are essential. Building an understanding, supportive relationship with the patient should take priority over trying to control them, so they trust and accept the instruction regarding eating well. |
